About Tabaq

Tabaq is a calorie-counting app that works from a photo, and this site is its free calorie reference. Here is where the numbers come from and how we write.

What is Tabaq?

Tabaq (Tabaq AI) is an app for iPhone, Android, Apple Watch and Wear OS. Snap your meal and AI estimates the ingredients, their weights and calories; or search a database of 2M+ foods in English, Arabic and Turkish, or scan a barcode. It has a fasting and Ramadan mode, and an assistant called Tabouq who knows your goal and what you ate today.

How we calculate

Dish values on this site are per 100 g, from the Tabaq food database, checked against published food-composition tables such as USDA FoodData Central, with the sources listed on each page. Portion weights are the common home and restaurant sizes. Values are estimates: oil, cheese and portion size change the number a lot, so we show the usual range next to it.

Calculators

The calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation with an activity factor; BMI follows the WHO categories; calories burned come from the Compendium of Physical Activities. Each calculator explains its formula below it.

How we write and review

Articles are written by Tabaq's editorial team and published under the responsible editor's byline (some editors write under a pen name). Every article opens with the direct answer, every number links to its source, and each page shows its last update. We don't give medical advice and recommend seeing a doctor for health conditions. Found a mistake? Tell us and we'll fix it.
